About Sepers Countryside Nursery

Sepers Countryside Nursery, formally Shield’s Nursery, was acquired in 2007 by Louis and Matthew Sepers. With over one hundred acres and more than 70 varieties of shrubs and trees, Countryside has become a premier field production nursery.

Matthew has steadily grown Countryside and now in its seventh year of operation, he runs his Nursery with the same values passed on to him through the generations: honesty, integrity & trust are synonymous with the Sepers name.

In 1999, Matthew joined his father, Lou, at the Columbia Avenue farm. Matt learned the container business from the ground up. Lou taught him the same business values that have been the standard at Sepers.

Family History

Sepers Nursery was founded in 1924 by Cornelius J. Sepers and his wife Gertrude. In 1945 their son, Leonard joined the business after he served his country in World War II. In 1949 the property on Columbia Avenue in Newfield, New Jersey was purchased and Leonard was one of the first nurserymen to start container grown stock in 1960. The business flourished and in 1976 Louis, Leonard’s son, joined in the family business. These three generations set a standard of honesty, integrity & trust in the industry. A fair price for a quality product has been the hallmark at Sepers Nursery.

Currently, Lou and his wife Janet’s three children, Andrea, Matthew and Daniel are all an integral part of the daily operations at Sepers. The 4th generation has helped Sepers Nursery grow, while still maintaining the values and ethics that were taught by the previous generations. Andrea manages The Garden Center at Sepers Nursery on Weymouth Road in Newfield. Daniel works alongside his father at the Columbia Avenue Farm. And Matthew is the head of operations at Sepers Countryside Nursery in Bridgeton, New Jersey.
